Eng. Alaa Fahmy is one of Egypt’s most successful professional Executive Managers in the Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology Sectors.
With over 30 years of achievements and accomplishments in these sectors, he is considered one of the leaders and experts in Egypt.
Since 1975, Eng. Alaa Fahmy has been leading several recognisable entities in the Telecommunications and IT Industries in Egypt. In recognition for his remarkable contribution and continuous innovation in this industry, he was nominated by the ‘World Technology Network’ in 2002 for the ‘International Reward in Communication Technology’.
In 2006 Eng. Alaa Fahmy was appointed by the Prime Minister to be the Chairman of the Egyptian National Postal Organisation (ENPO), for developing the infrastructure and capacity building, and supporting the governmental social services.
In October 2006, Eng. Alaa Fahmy was chosen as the Vice Chairman of the third mobile phone operator ‘Etisalat Misr’.
Eng. Alaa Fahmy was elected by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) as the Chairman of the WG-ITR (Council Working Group on the International Telecommunications Regulation).
Eng. Alaa Fahmy was also Chairman of the Arab Network for Regulatory Commissions of Telecommunications and Information Technology (ARNET).
In April 2003, Eng. Alaa Fahmy was appointed by the Prime Minister to the post of Executive President of the ‘National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’ (NTRA), for the restructure and transformation towards a free economic market and liberalised Telecom Service Industry in Egypt.
In March 2000 Eng. Alaa Fahmy became General Manager, Chief Technical Officer and Stakeholder in the well known private sector company Nile On Nile (NOL). The company’s aim was to build the first internet and public data backbone in Egypt and to develop the internet industry. The company has now reached leading status within the region.
Eng. Alaa Fahmy has held various positions within the Government in Telecommunications and IT entities, during his service in the Ministry of Defense/Air Force (MOD) and the Cabinet Information & Decision Support Centre (IDSE). During his 3 years with IDSE, through successful management, it has become a leading player in the advancement of information technology, on both local and regional levels, as well as being a recognisable entity on a global level.
Eng. Alaa Fahmy has received his B.Sc. from the Military Technical College, and his post-graduate studies were from Ain Shams University, Cairo University and American Institutes.
On a social level, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Maadi Sports Club for 2 consecutive terms (1986-1994). Vice Chairman (2002-2006) and is currently Chairman, after being elected in November 2006.
